Our Unit is called the Guides and was formed in 1942. We are involved in many activities that help the St. Louis Shriners Hospital. Some of these include providing free transportation to and from the Hospital for patients and families seven days a week. The Hospital van we use for this purpose is purchased using proceeds from our weekly Bingo game that has been around since 1989. We also donate proceeds to the Hospital directly for their transportation fund. This fund is used to fly burns patients to our Shriners Cincinnati clinic. We are Parade Marshalls for several Parades each year and support the temple by cooking for several events such as Christmas with Santa.
Last Tuesday Herby Mahler (along with son Bill) returned from his "WWII honor flight". Here is a great picture of Herby, Dorothy, his family and some of us Guides that were there to meet him. What a great cause.
We host one of the largest and well operated Weekly Bingo games in the St, Louis area. Our game has been in existence since 1989 in three different locations. We have been at our present location since 2000. This game is hosted at the VFW #3944 Hall (450 capacity) 10815 Midland Blvd., Overland, Mo. 63114. The VFW provides food and beverage service at the hall.
